You know the drill. A tap starts dripping. Or the shower drain takes a bit longer than usual. You tell yourself you'll sort it "next weekend". Fast forward three months and next weekend still hasn't come.
Most plumbing problems don't get better on their own. Some are genuinely small — but a few are quiet warnings of something bigger brewing behind the wall. Here are five signs it's time to stop faffing and get a proper Manchester plumber out.
1. A dripping tap that never really stops

4. Drains that are slow — or make gurgling noises
A single slow drain is usually a hairball or a bit of soap scum. Multiple slow drains, or a gurgling sound when you empty the bath, means the blockage is further down the system — potentially in the main soil stack or even the drain out to the road.
This is one you want caught early. A plumber with a drain camera can spot a partial blockage in ten minutes. Wait too long and you're looking at a full drain excavation — which in a terraced street in Manchester means digging up the pavement.
5. Your water suddenly tastes or smells different
Metallic, sulphurous, or unusually cloudy water can indicate a corroding pipe, a failing water heater anode, or in older properties a lead pipe issue. Manchester still has pockets of lead supply pipes on some pre-1970s streets.
If your water goes weird overnight, don't drink it and get someone qualified out to test it. This isn't a wait-and-see one.
